In the
field of music distribution, we all ask who is the best company or leaders to
deal with to put our products out on the shelf in stores? Or what Internet
based service can do us the most justice of service that broadcast and sale of
our musical goods? With the positioning
of how the music products are promoted and formulated for sales the
distribution format has changed drastically from brick and mortar business shops
to an on line distributions and sales. This is not to mention that most sells
are to independent artists and recording labels than just to the main hitters
such as Universal, Def Jam, Warner, and others of the music moguls that are
also part of the trend of selling more on line as well.
For the
question of, who are the main companies that lead the world of sales, and
distribution? We did our recon using www.ifpi.org to
check the Digital Music Report 2013 and the cross check of our next leading
music nation; which is the UK. With the next question that was on the mind of
most surrounding me, “who are the major companies to go after for the major
push, and what companies are doing their numbers overseas so that a artist is
positioned in more than just the US but the world?” So, through the search, the
information was found on http://www.Telegraph.co.uk. This site gave the six best digital music
download sites that are giving the free download world a run for their money.
From
the Digital Music Report 2013, “Download stores continue to see steadily
growing sales and are spreading globally. They represent around 70 per cent of
global digital revenues. Major technology players- Amazon, Apple, Google, and
Microsoft- have joined the market or upgraded their services.” Coming from the
Telegraph. “Providing consumers with the music they want, in the format they
want it, is the best way of encouraging people to pay for songs.” This rids the
problem of illegal downloads which decreases the stealing of music but it also
helps the companies raise their bar for the services that the artists, and
companies look for so that the losing of money isn’t a problem but also because
the consumer wouldn’t want to lose there services of getting more downloads
then not being able to gain excess to the services that they would like to
have.
With
what I was able to grasp from my study of the two sources the build up of more
sites with services that have to be paid for is at it’s highest in the UK with
33%, followed by the US with the rating of 28%. But these sites are paid for
sites with the numbers that represent paid to download. So how is it when you
are a artist that is capable to make and design your own website and charge for
services rendered to a market or group that you provide music for no one wants
to subscribe or even make a purchase? Answer is because of the compotation that
rules the world of people. Go after what they know till you make it where they
are. You must realize that you are part of the business that is doing this for the
used subscription services (free/paid). This is happening more in Sweden with a
48% market share and also South Korea with a 41% market share. These services
of free/paid downloads are tied for the UK &US at 19%. This is how the
market is saturated for the artist growth of being noticed and the type of
music that is put out all around the world. The selling of single songs have
become more stronger in the year 2012 with a 8% increase than it seems with
album sales which still remain strong with the last reading of 17% in 2011. In
my lifetime I always thought that the hand to hand was the grasp for the start
and maybe it’s old fashion but when the numbers tell you what’s hot and what’s
not then remember this when you thinking on how to distribute your music on the
internet downloadable unit sales are up 12%, paying subscribers are 44%, and
62% of internet users use licensed services to guarantee that their work isn’t
illegally downloaded.
Ask
yourself do you want to work harder or work smarter for your goal of making it
in your desired field of a musician?
